今日義大利被喻為義大利最高貴葡萄酒產區的Barolo，在 Langhe 地區上有著如詩風景，行列成伍的葡萄園與起伏的丘陵、丘頂的小鎮交織出的淳樸風光，讓人很難想像窮苦歲月與她的距離僅是幾個十年。第二次世界大戰結束後，直至上個世紀的70年代，貧窮的壓迫幾乎烙進了Langhe居民的骨底；除了貧困，連民生用水的匱乏都是普遍的窘境，Langhe 的大多數地區只有井水、雨水，沒有任何類似自來水的輸水管線的；水源的用途與用量若不能妥善分配，不論是家務、農事或日常用水都會出現問題；甚至在寒冬時分，人們得與家畜共處一室來取暖。
「我還記得是1975年的事。那年，我們種出最美的葡萄，將近採收時，我，以及其它幾百個葡萄農聚集在Alba城裡的 Savona廣場，對來採購釀酒葡萄的商人們說著今年的葡萄品質有多麼動人，希望能賣個好價錢。
「這些商人只是這裡看看、那裡看看，什麼都不買；他們拖了兩個星期，等到葡萄都要腐爛了，才肯用便宜的價錢收購。這整筆錢往往會拖到隔年才給，售出葡萄的當下我們根本不曉得能拿到多少錢。」
「我們一定是做錯了什麼了。」「為什麼Barolo賣不好？為什麼Barolo只能如此賤賣？為什麼人們不喝Barolo？」
「那一定只有一個答案：我們詮釋 Barolo的方法不對，才讓Barolo無法帶給品飲者愉悅的感受。」
當Barolo Boys 他們從布根地回到了Langhe，嚐試著做一些改變，「在那個年代，所有被認可的偉大葡萄酒，甚至今日的許多偉大葡萄酒，幾乎都與小型橡木桶的運用有關。如果我想釀出更好的酒，有什麼理由不做相關的嚐試呢？」
Pira是一家十分古老的尊循傳統的釀酒小農，早在西元八世紀就已開始釀酒，但因家中男丁相繼英年早逝，曾渡過一段相當長的暗淡時光，直到 Chiara Boschis 她的出現，才使得這個古老家族重新煥起生機，受到國際義大利葡萄酒的重視。
Chiara Boschis 她主修經濟學，獲得了經濟學學位後，她開始回到家裡管理這個古老的酒莊，只有小小六公頃葡萄園，包括被譽為被上帝親吻過的Barolo最好的葡萄園之一 Cannubi (卡努比)，每年總產量只有2000箱。雖Chiara Boschis學習的是經濟學，但是她曾經在Borgogno酒莊工作，作為 Langhe 地區屈指可數的幾位元女性釀酒師之一，她充滿自信，有毅力，有耐心，充滿魅力。
在1990年Chiara Boschis開始掌管 E. Pira e Figli 酒莊事物時，她腦海裡就有個明確的藍圖，就是要將充滿雄厚丹寧的Barolo給予濃郁淡雅的香氣，使它變得容易親近，更加優雅豐富，在今日她確實做到了。對果實精挑細選，發酵過程毫無瑕疵：短浸漬，蘋果酸-乳酸發酵，使用法國全新小木桶等..，現在她釀出的作品，已是不言可諭了，常常獲得高分評鑑!

E.Pira & Figli •【Barolo Via Nuova】2013【Vinous – Antonio Galloni Tasting Notes】: The 2013 Barolo Via Nuova is the most tannic and explosive of these three Barolos. The flavors are dark, powerful and intense throughout. Beams of searing tannin and vibrant, pointed acidity wrap around the virile, imposing finish. Readers will have to be patient with the 2013, as it is likely to be slow to mature in bottle. Even so, the purity of the flavors and textures is compelling.

The Mosconi site is characterized by heavy clay soils that act like a sponge and keep the moisture locked deep within even during the warmest months. The wine opens to coffee and dark fruit with more cherry, spice, tobacco and black truffle at the back. The mouthfeel is generous and wide in appeal, showing tannic firmness that coats the palate. The wine’s layering is rich and lasting in intensity. This wine shows excellent possibility for further cellar evolution.

E.Pira Chiara Boschis •【Barolo Cannubi】2012【Vinous – Antonio Galloni Tasting Notes】:The 2012 Barolo Cannubi is super-finessed, open-knit and gracious, with striking aromatic lift and plenty of precision. Bright red stone fruit, chalk and white pepper give the 2012 its distinctive aromatic signatures. Soft tannins and exceptional balance add to the wine’s considerable appeal. The 2012 is a bit more buttoned up than it was last year, but every bit as beautiful. This is a gorgeous Barolo from Chiara Boschis.
